At Children’s Civic Light Opera, we have had the privilege of training, mentoring and inspiring thousands of young people through the years. Due to the demand for advanced training and continued performance opportunities, we established Young Adult Civic Light Opera (YACLO) in 2001, a theatre company for young adult performers ages 18 – 25.
We are an intermediary program between Educational Theatre and the professional stage, based on our depth of knowledge and experience in both realms. Our process and expectations are similar to what a performer would experience in the “real world,” thus participants receive quality training in a highly professional environment and work and learn at a more rapid pace. However, we maintain our ensemble philosophy, de-emphasizing the negative aspects of competition, and emphasizing collaboration, energy, teamwork and trust – important components of successful rehearsal and performance.
By enhancing performance skills and techniques, challenging our students to reach beyond their current artistic and personal capabilities, ensuring audition-preparedness and promoting proper theatre etiquette, YACLO students gain a deeper understanding of what it takes to succeed in the theatrical world. Company members have been accepted into prestigious Universities and Conservatories, and have been cast with a variety of theatre companies and recognized performers across the country.
Rehearsals and classes are scheduled to accommodate participants’ school and work commitments.
YACLO is for the disciplined student who is looking to challenge his/her proficiency in musical theatre, grow as a performer and a person, and practice his/her theatrical passions.
