MAINSTAGE ENSEMBLE

Theatrical training for youth ages 8 – 18!

The Mainstage Ensemble is Children’s Civic Light Opera’s core company. Established in 1987, Mainstage programs are an intermediary between Educational Theatre and the professional stage.

Students train and rehearse for full-scale Broadway shows, both musical and dramatic. Productions include professional sets and costumes (that cast members help design and construct), professional lighting and sound and a live professional orchestra for musical performances.

The Creative Teaching Staff is comprised of professional artists and educators, several with advanced degrees in their respective fields, who have had experience as performers, designers and instructors. Thus, students in the Mainstage Ensemble not only train for the stage, they practice theatre etiquette, learn theatrical and musical vocabulary, receive hands-on instruction in technical theatre and work behind the scenes, as well.

Reflective questioning, intrapersonal investigation and inquiry are crucial components of the Mainstage Ensemble. We want our students to discover relevance in theatrical and musical material and make connections between the material and their own experiences. Furthermore, we encourage students to find the potential applications of what they learn to their every-day lives.

Mainstage classes, workshops and productions are carefully designed so students of every skill level can work side by side. Participants are gently challenged to take risks and conquer fears of the unknown and unfamiliar: essential ingredients in the building of an artist. We personalize the experience for each individual with whom we work to ensure learning, growth and advancement for all.

Environment is always energetic and fun. Laughter is required. Mistakes are welcome learning opportunities. Mainstage ensemble is dedicated to creating well-rounded, capable and confident performers and well-rounded, capable and confident people.
